The Read Side by Side Reading Program


Unit 3.1
Students learn about forest animals as they read the fantasy novel Poppy together in read-aloud and three information nonfiction texts in book clubs: Backyard Animals, Nocturnal Creatures, and Forest Animals. This first book club reviews foundational skills: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, and comprehension!

Students learn about solving conflict at home and at school as they read the humorous, realistic fiction novel The War with Grandpa together in read-aloud and are matched to one of three realistic fiction texts in book clubs: Marvin Redpost: Why Pick On Me?, Jake Drake, Bully Buster, or Beezus and Ramona.
