Unit 4.2

Students learn about knights and castles as they read the fantasy novel, The Castle in the Attic, together in read-aloud and are matched to one of three Bruce Coville fantasy novels in book clubs: The Weeping Werewolf, The Dragonslayers, or Into the Land of the Unicorns.

Unit 4.3

Students learn about the Lewis and Clark journey as they read the biography of Sacagawea, Streams to the River, River to the Sea, together in read-aloud. In book clubs, they corroborate the facts as they read the information nonfiction text, Going Along with Lewis and Clark.

Students learn about the Klondike Gold Rush as they read the narrative nonfiction book, Children of the Gold Rush, together in read-aloud then are matched to one of three historical fiction novels in book clubs: The Year of Miss Agnes, Riding Freedom, or The Sign of the Beaver.
