At Read Side by Side, our mission is to prepare all students for life-long reading by providing quality, evidence-based curriculum to engage all readers.
Meet the Founder
Sarah Collinge, M. S.
I started my work as a third-grade teacher in 2000, focusing my work in Title 1 schools. Throughout my teaching career, my goal was to increase students' success and confidence as readers. After years of teaching Basal curriculums, guided reading, and reader's workshop (with only mild-success), I launched my own research and began studying how motivation ties in to reading success. My research evolved over several years and led me to a new and innovative approach to teaching reading in the middle-grades; the CIA (Collect-Interpret-Apply) approach. As my work spread across Washington state, I left teaching in order to publish my work and share it with the world! My first book Raising the Standards Through Chapter Books (2011, 2022), outlines how to teach this new approach in the classroom. Following its publication, I went on to write a comprehensive reading curriculum for grades 3-6. While I remain passionate about providing quality instruction for all students, I am just as passionate about supporting teachers with sustainable practices that seek to keep them in the profession!

Being a teacher-owned, small business offers us the opportunity to provide something truly different for schools. At Read Side by Side we are dedicated to making sure the curriculum we sell is teacher approved, and raises reading achievement for all students. Our curriculum is affordable, with options for every budget. We do not lock schools into contracts, and there are no subscriptions! All professional development can be accessed through PD books, video trainings, and web call services. We know you will be happy with our products and our customer service!
